Pre-Announcement on New ESPON Calls
The next Calls for Proposals will open on 24 August 2010. The deadline for submitting proposals is 19 October 2010. The total available budget is 1.950.000 Euro.
The Calls are the following:
- Call for Proposals for 2 Targeted Analyses (Priority 2 of the ESPON 2013 Programme)
- Call for Proposals for ESPON Database Project Phase II (Priority 3 of the ESPON 2013 Programme)

Call for proposals under the multi-annual work programme 2010 for grants in the field of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) for the period 2007-2013
The European Commission, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport is launching a call for proposals, under the multi-annual work programme for the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) for the period 2007-2013, in order to award grants to:
Field No 11: Projects in the field of River Information Services (RIS). The maximum total amount available for the selected proposals, for 2010, is €10 million.
Field No 13: TEN-T Priority Project No 21 - Motorways of the Sea. The maximum total amount available for the selected proposals, for 2010, is €85 million.

LIFE+ Call for proposals 2010 The Commission invites proposals for LIFE+ funding from entities registered in the EU Member States (public and/or private bodies, actors and institutions). The following themes are covered by this call:
1. LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity Principal objective: to protect, conserve, restore, monitor and facilitate the functioning of natural systems, natural habitats, wild flora and fauna, with the aim of halting the loss of biodiversity, including diversity of genetic resources, within the EU by 2010.
2. LIFE+ Environment Policy and Governance Principal objectives: - Climate change, Water, Air, Soil, Urban environment, Noise, Chemicals, Environment and health, Natural resources and waste, Forests, Innovation, Strategic approaches,
3. LIFE+ Information and Communication Principal objective: to disseminate information and raise awareness on environmental issues, including forest fire prevention; and to provide support for accompanying measures, such as information, communication actions and campaigns, conferences and training, including training on forest fire prevention.

Open call for the Eurostars programme for innovative small
and medium-sized enterprises
EUREKA, the European platform for research and development (R&D) funding, has issued an open call for its Eurostars programme.
A Eurostars project can address any technological area; it must, though, have a civilian purpose and be aimed at the development of a new product, process or service. Overall, the projects are collaborative, meaning they must involve at least two participants (legal entities) from two different participating countries. In addition, the main participant must be a research-performing small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) from one of these countries.

Eco-innovation projects 2010 call for proposals
The European Commission has launched a €35 million call for eco-innovation projects to be funded under the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP).
Funding is available for new projects in the area of materials recycling, sustainable building products, the food and drink sector, and green business practices.
The deadline is 9 September.
Call for proposals - EAC/22/10: Preparatory action in the field of sport
(Open call)
This call for proposals will support transnational projects put forward by public bodies or civil society organisations in order to identify and test suitable networks and good practices in the field of sport, in the following areas:
(a) Fight against doping
(b) Promoting social inclusion in and through sport
(c) Promoting volunteering in sport
Applicants must be public bodies; or civil society organisations; they must have legal status and have their registered head offices in one of the EU Member States.
EU co-financing will be provided to a maximum of 80% of the total eligible costs. Staff costs may not exceed 50% of the total eligible costs. Other external co-financing can include up to 10% contributions in kind.

Call for Proposals - EACEA/14/10 - ICI Education Co-operation Programme - Co-operation in Higher Education and Training between the European Union and Australia and the European Union and the Republic of Korea - Call for Proposals 2010 for Joint Mobility
The maximum amount of funding on the EU side will be €465,000 for a four-year JDP project, €232,500 for a three-year JMP project with three EU institutions and €310,000 for a three-year JMP project with four or more EU institutions.
Activities are scheduled to start in
November 2010. The deadline for applications is 6 September 2010.
Call for proposals - MOVE/SUB/01-2010 on road safety and the internal market: inland waterway transport
The European Commission is planning to grant subsidies to promote transport policy objectives. The main topics selected are road safety and internal market for inland waterway transport.
Amounts granted will be between 10% and 50% of the total eligible costs of the operation, except for transport security, where it can be up to 80%.
Operations to be supported will largely be: research activities and dissemination of best practices; coordination and harmonisation of standards and procedures; studies to advance knowledge in fields for further and innovative initiatives at the European level.

Call for proposals - EACEA/12/10 - ‘Youth in action’ programme — Action 4.5 — Support to information activities for young people and those active in youth work and youth organisations
Applicants must be non-profit organisations: non-governmental organisations (NGOs); public bodies at regional or local level; national Youth Councils. Projects must include activities of a non-profit-making nature, related to the field of youth and non-formal education. They must start between 1 January 2011 and 31 March 2011, and must last for between 12 and 18 months. EU funding will be for 80% of eligible expenses of a project, with a maximum grant of E 100,000.

Call for proposals - The European Investment Bank proposes three new EIBURS sponsorships within its EIB-Universities Research Action
EIBURS provides grants to University Research Centres working on research topics and themes of major interest to the Bank. EIB sponsorships, of up to €100,000 per year for a period of three years, are awarded through a competitive process to interested university departments or research centres, associated with universities of EU, accession or acceding countries, with recognised expertise in EIB-selected areas, so they can expand their activities in these areas. The successful proposal will entail the delivery of a variety of outputs (research, organisation of courses and seminars, networking, dissemination of results, etc.) that will be the subject of a contractual agreement with the Bank.

DG Research - 7PQ – PEOPLE
Reintegration Grants (RG) aims to reinforce the attractiveness of Europe by encouraging European researchers who have carried out research outside Europe for at least three years. The scheme aims to reintegrate the researchers to a Member State or an Associated country in order to contribute to European research and transfer the knowledge they have acquired in a third country, by offering them the opportunity to capitalise on their experience in Europe.

proposals is 2010-09-07.
Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowships for Career Development (IOF) proposals are welcomed from all areas of scientific and technological research that are of interest to the EU. But there is one exception: research areas covered by the EURATOM Treaty cannot be funded. IOFs fund advanced training. In particular, they include a salary for the researcher and a contribution to research-related costs. Financial support can be given for up to 3 years in all. This includes an initial outgoing phase of 1-2 years in a Third Country followed by a mandatory reintegration phase of 1 year. In other words, you will be committing yourself to return to an EU Member State or an Associated Country.
Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships (IIF) funding is provided for a research project which will transfer knowledge into your host organisation and building or enhancing collaborations between Europe and the rest of the world. The research project will also allow you to advance your career. Financial support is provided for 12-24 months (full-time equivalent). Your IIF may also cover a return phase of up to one year. This will be spent back in your country of origin, applying the experience that you have gained. To qualify for a return phase, you must be from one of the International Cooperation Partner Countries.
Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships (IEF) funding
is provided for advanced training and career development. This may include the
acquisition of new and/or complementary skills, and transnational mobility. The
project is based on a personal career development programme agreed between the
researcher and the supervisor at the host organisation. Financial support is
provided for a period of 12-24 months (full-time equivalent), for individual
projects presented by experienced researchers from Member States or Associated Countries
in liaison with a host organisation from a Member State or Associated Country.

Support for two competitions on the promotion of language learning through
short audiovisual productions
The objective of this Call is
to award a grant for the organisation of two competitions for short audiovisual
productions in 2011 and 2012.
Activities must start between 1 January 2011 and 31 January 2011 and end before
31 January 2013. The maximum duration of projects is 24 months.

European Cooperation in Science and
Technology (COST)
Applicants are invited to locate their topic within one Domain. However,
inter-disciplinary proposals not fitting readily into a single Domain are
particularly welcome and will be assessed separately.
Proposals should include researchers from a minimum of five COST countries.
Financial support in the range of €100,000 pa can be expected, normally
for four years.
Approximately 80 Full Proposals will be invited for final selection of
approximately 30 new Actions. Full Proposals will be invited by 12 November
2010 for submission by 14 January 2011, with decisions expected in May

The Call for Proposals 2010 aims at providing
financial contributions (operating grants) to the functioning of European

MEDIA Mundus - Call for proposals 2011
This call for proposals is based on Decision
No 1041/2009/EC establishing an audiovisual cooperation programme with
professionals from third countries (MEDIA Mundus 2011–13). The aims of
the programme are to increase the competitiveness of the European audiovisual
industry, to enable Europe to play its cultural and political role in the world
more effectively and to increase consumer choice and cultural diversity. The
programme will seek to improve access to third-country markets and to build
trust and long-term working relationships.
The MEDIA Mundus programme supports cooperation projects between European
professionals and professionals from third countries, to the mutual benefit of
the European audiovisual sector and that of third countries.

2009-2013. Action 2 - Partnerships
This call for proposals applies to the
cooperation between European and third country higher education institutions
from the South Mediterranean Region (Egypt, Israel and occupied Palestinian
Territory), the Central Asian Republics, and the Western Balkans. The overall
aim of the Erasmus Mundus programme is to promote European higher education, to

Call for proposals - EAC/41/10: European Policy Network on Key Competences
in School Education
This call for proposals will support the
implementation of the 2006 Recommendation on key competences for lifelong
learning. It will do so by addressing in particular the issues raised by the
2009 communication 'Key Competences for a Changing World' that takes stock of
the state of play of the implementation of the Recommendation, and suggests
areas for further work.

Call for proposals - EAC/42/10: European Policy Network on School
Leadership
This call for proposals will support
the implementation of the Conclusions of the Education Council of November
2007, 2008 and 2009 which agreed to improve the way that school leaders are
prepared, selected, educated and trained. It will do so by facilitating
transnational exchange and cooperation between policymakers, practitioners,
researchers and stakeholders involved in developing school leadership policy
through, for example, peer learning, research and analysis.
